On 10th September 2024, Auxilium College, Vellore, organized the highly anticipated Mega Seed Ball Fiesta 2024 under the theme Auxilium Eco 6G: Go Green, Grow Green, Glow Green. The event aimed at creating environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices, particularly through the large-scale creation of 5 lakh seed balls.
The Chief Guest, Tmt. V.R. Subbulaxmi, I.A.S., District Collector of Vellore, and Mr. Dinesh Saravanan, an environmentalist who served as the Seed Sponsor, played a key role in the success of the event. The presence of over 3,000 students from Auxilium College highlighted the collective commitment to environmental preservation.
The program began promptly at 9:30 am with the invocation of Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu, setting a tone of cultural respect and unity. Dr. Isabella Rosaline S., the Enviro Club Coordinator, delivered the Welcome Address, greeting the dignitaries, students, faculty, and participants. She emphasized the significance of the Eco 6G concept, which focuses on fostering an eco-friendly campus and instilling a sense of environmental responsibility in students.
The event was then officially inaugurated with an Inaugural Address by Dr. Sr. Mary Josephine Rani A., Secretary of Auxilium College. She spoke about the vision behind the Eco 6G initiative and the importance of youth involvement in the fight against climate change. The next segment of the program featured Felicitation by Dr. Sr. Arokia Jayaceli A., Principal of Auxilium College, who praised the collaborative effort of the students, staff in organizing the SeedBall Fiesta. She highlighted the college’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and environmental activism. The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr. Dinesh Saravanan, an environmentalist from Vellore. In his insightful speech, he explained the science behind seed ball technology and its potential for large-scale reforestation. He also stressed the importance of grassroots initiatives like this in combating deforestation and soil erosion.
The Presidential Address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Tmt. V.R. Subbulaxmi, I.A.S., District Collector of Vellore. She lauded the efforts of Auxilium College in taking proactive measures for environmental conservation. Her inspiring words encouraged the students to continue their involvement in green initiatives and to contribute actively towards creating a healthier planet.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Anitha T., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. She expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, sponsors, participants, and volunteers for their invaluable contributions, ensuring the success of the Mega SeedBall Fiesta 2024.
The seed balls were crafted using seeds from a variety of native trees, which play an essential role in promoting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance. The seeds used in the event included, Vepam (Neem), Yetti Kai (Indian Kino Tree), Jathi Kai (Nutmeg), Neer Maruthu (Indian Elm), Arasamaram (Peepal Tree) and Atthi (Cluster Fig). These seeds were chosen for their ecological benefits, including air purification, soil conservation, and their ability to adapt to the local environment.
Through the Auxilium Eco 6G initiative, the college continues to inspire and engage the younger generation in meaningful ecological efforts. The Mega Seed Ball Fiesta 2024 not only highlighted the importance of reforestation but also showcased how community involvement can significantly impact environmental conservation.
