DISTRUCTRIVE RAIN AND FLOOD AND THE RELIEF WORKS DONE BY THE FMA AUXILIUM HOME

VYASARPADI- CHENNAI -600 039

From November 12the there was rain.  From 1st December there was torrents of non stopping rain, which flooded all the streets of Vyasarpadi and no vehicle could enter the convent, because there was hip level water which was mingled with gutter waters, so black and dirty which was giving itching and smell.

On the 02.12.2015 night  Puzhal  lake was opened due to fear of  the lake cracking down.  Because of this the Don Boaco Beatitude center was flooded with seven feet water in the ground and the water entered the convent with four feet water in the chapel, kitchen, all the ground floor rooms inside. Outside the convent the sewage and cutter water flooded.  The Salesian Fathers provided the food for the Boarders and the sisters ate the same on those days.  No electricity on those six days.

While the is our situation, the poor people with families were stranded because the gutter water along with the lake waters entered their huts and houses with force that many of their house hold things were washed way in the water and they had the water reaching their neck.   The centipede and other insects were flowing in. There was electric shock on the  walls.  The people came to the convent asking for  shelter.   So, Sr. Lourdusamy Emily Mary  the Headmistress of the Primary school with the due permission from the Correspondent  Fr. Joy Panackel opened the class rooms and gave accommodation.  Along with the Fr. Paul Mark and  Fr. Arulanandam Devasagyam . Sr. Lourdusamy Emily Mary  and Sisters traded through the dirty water and provided all their basic needs, like food, water, etc.  Throughout the week the Salesians from the Beatitude centre provided food for the local people with the help of the Don Bosco Youth Centre boys and the parishners.  For the past ten days  with the collaboration of the SDBs the FMA Sisters are carrying out the relief work till date.10.12.2015. In the evening Sr.Lourdusamy Emily Mary along with the volunteers went around the streets to meet the people and the children and listen to their sad stories.

When the NGOs brought relief materials, Sisters distributed for the people  outside.  Sr. Perianayagam Sagayaselvi was with the boarders and was caring for them.  She also sent the boarders to drain the waters from the house, to shift the materials from the water, to provide food and to do odd jobs.  The children were very generous and joyfully helped everyone in need.  The Boarders went to clean the parish church, High school, dispensary, social service hall etc.  Apart from this Sr. Joseph Isabella, the Animator paid for medicines and hospital fees for women and children who were with fever and sick with typhoid and other ailments.  She also provided them chemise and panties for the girls. Now, the flying Doctors are taking care of the sick.   Sr. Antony Agnes took care; of the self help women and provided them material help and consoling them at this movement of distress of losing all their homes and belongings.
