The Kanali Women’s Cell of Auxilium College presents Ms. Deepalakshimi K. with the Mamma Margaret Award in recognition of her advocacy for sustainable agriculture.
Vellore, India – March 10, 2024: The annual tradition of honoring women activists from the Vellore district continues as the Kanali Women’s Cell of Auxilium College presented the esteemed Mamma Margaret Award on March 8th. This award, named after the mother of Don Bosco, pays homage to her significant role in fostering feminine richness within Don Bosco’s educational philosophy, particularly through her advocacy of integral ecology and initiation of kitchen gardens in Salesian houses.
Ms. Deepalakshimi K., a passionate organic Agripreneur and the Founder and CEO of SD Agricultural and Research Foundation in Vellore, was bestowed with this year’s prestigious award. Recognized for her remarkable contributions to organic farming and her unwavering commitment to sustainable practices in agriculture, Ms. Deepalakshimi K. exemplifies the values celebrated by the Mamma Margaret Award.
In her acceptance speech, Ms. Deepalakshimi K. underscored the importance of environmental stewardship and dedicated herself to caring for our common home. Over the past twelve years, her organization has diligently worked the uplift rural livelihoods by providing agricultural guidance, training, and fostering self-employment opportunities. Additionally, she has conducted extensive awareness programs on organic farming for students across educational institutions.
Ms. Deepalakshimi’s dedication to service and compassion has been recognized through numerous accolades, including the “Best Young Farmer” award from CNN: News 18 TN, the “Homepreneurs Award” from Brand Avatar Group, and the “Best Young Organic Farmer” award from the APJ Abdul Kalam Trust, among others. Her advocacy for the environment extends beyond her organization, as she actively engages in television and radio interviews, publications, guest lectures, and agricultural programs aimed at fostering environmental consciousness within society.
The Mamma Margaret Award was presented to Ms. Deepalakshimi K. by distinguished members of Auxilium College, Dr. (Sr.) Mary Josephine Rani A., Secretary, Dr. (Sr.) Jayasanthi R., Principal, and Dr. (Sr.) Arockia Jayaceli, Controller of Examinations, HOD of the Department of Tamil, and Coordinator of the Kanali Women’s Cell.
